Roulette Guide - Rules
and Strategies |
 |
You will encounter two styles
of roulette wheels in online casinos - American and
European. The American wheel has an extra slot - the
00 next to the zero --, which makes the odds of winning
slightly worse than if you bet using the European wheel
has one 0. Both wheels display the numbers 1 through
36. The numbers on the reel are arranged out of order
so the odds of landing on high, odd, low or even numbers
are randomly distributed around the wheel. The zero
numbers are green on most wheels and the odd and even
numbers alternate in the colors of red and black. |
 |
In Roulette, each player
is assigned a different set of colored chips so the
dealer can tell the players apart from each other. Online,
the dealer is represented by often an animated character
or computer that determines the total value of a stack
of chips. The dealer places what is known as a "lammer"
on top of a stack of chips to indicate the total value
of the stack to yourself and any other players. |
 |
The simplest way to understand
the layout of a roulette table is to look at it like
a betting track. "Inside bets" placed on the
main grid that is filled with squares and numbers and
"outside bets " placed on the outside edge
of the table where there are no numbers or graphics. |
 |
Often the software will
tell you that there is a 'table minimum" for a
bet. The usual minimum bet is ten dollars. Also it is
important to note that you are usually only allowed
to place single $10 bets on the inside grid of the table.
On the outside of the table you would be allowed to
place 10 $1 bets. |
 |
When you decide what kind
of bet you want to place, an "inside bet"
or "outside" bet, direct your computer to
place the chips where you would like them on the table.
You have a choice of what to bet on. You can bet the
ball will land on red or black or whether or not the
ball will land on an even or odd number. |
 |
Usually the computer or
animated dealer will spin the wheel to begin the game,
but some programs allow you to spin the wheel yourself.
While the wheel is spinning, you are allowed to place
bets until the dealer, voice over or some other kind
of message tells you "No More Bets!" to indicate
the betting is closed. Depending on the software, you
can place bets before the ball starts spinning or while
it is spinning in the roulette wheel. |
 |
When the ball comes to a
rest the dealer pays the winners their chips and subtracts
chips from the losers. This may be done with a visual
animated graphic that shows you the "lammer"
removing chips from the table or represented by a counter
that subtracts chips from your account. |
 |
There are scores of different
kinds of bets you can make at a roulette table. Here
is brief description of the different kinds of bets
you can place on the table. They are identical to the
kinds of bets placed at a Roulette table in a real casino. |
 |
Inside Bets
This is any bet placed on the number gird on the inside
part of the Tables almost always have minimum wager
requirements that will be displayed to you by computer
prompts. If the table minimum is $10 that means you
can place $1 bets on different numbers on the table,
as long as the total number of bets adds up to $10. |
 |
The Straight Bet
also known as the Classic Bet
You place a single bet on one number. If the spinning
ball lands on the number you have chosen, you win at
35-1 odds. |
 |
The Split Bet also
known as the Two Number Bet
You can bid on two numbers at the same time by placing
your chip on the line separating two numbers. This occurs
in the inside grid of the table. If the ball hits either
number hits, you get a 17 to 1 payoff. So, let's say
that you bet $2 and place the chip between 28 and 31.
If either number hit, you would win $34. |
 |
The Street Bet,
Stream Bet or Three Number Bet
Here you are betting that one of three sequential numbers
hits on the roulette wheel with payoff odds of 11 to
1. The street bet is marked off on the table with a
graphic and marked with a particular kind of chip. So
if you bet $20 and bet on either 11, 12, or 13, you
would win $220 the ball landed on any one of those numbers. |
 |
Square Bet or Four
Number Bet
Your chip is placed on the edge of a square bordering
four numbers. The payoff of a successful spin on this
bet is 8 to 1. For example, if you bet $10 on the square
bordering the numbers 22, 23, 24 and 25, you would win
$80 if the roulette ball hit any of those four numbers. |
 |
The Five-Number
Bet
This bet is only available on an American style wheel.
When you place this bet, you are hoping that the ball
will land on any of the following numbers: 0, 00, 1,
2 or 3. This bet is marked out graphically on the roulette
table. The payoff for this bet is 6 to 1, so if you
bet $20 and one of them hit, you would win $120. |
 |
Outside Bets: Red,
Black, Even and Odd
These four bets are the simplest to perform and are
placed at the fringe of the table on the outside of
the numbered grid. The table is well marked so you will
know where to place the bet if you look at the graphic
at the roulette table. Here you are betting that the
ball will land on either an even number, an odd number,
a black slot or a red slot. These simples outside bets
have a payoff of 1-1. So if you bet $10 that the ball
would land on black, and the ball lands in any black
slot you would win $10. If you bet $10 the ball would
land on an odd number, then you would also win $10. |
 |
Outside High and
Low Bets
A High Bet is when you are betting that the ball will
hit one of the higher numbers on the wheel. This can
be any number from 19-36. When you place a Low bet you
are second-guessing that the ball will land on any number
from 1-18. These two kinds of bets pay off one to one.
So if you bet $10 on a high bet and you win then you
will receive $10. |
 |
Dozen Bet
The Roulette wheel is divided into three different groups
of "dozens". These three groups are 1-12,
13-24, and 25-36. You are betting that the ball will
land on a particular dozen with the next spin of the
wheel. For example if you bet on the 13-24 dozen and
the ball lands on 15 then you win as that number is
included in the dozen. The pay off for this bet is 2-1,
so if you place a $10 bet you will win $20 plus your
original $10 back. |
 |
Column Bet
You will notice at the end of the table, there is space
denoted where you can make a column bet. There are three
columns of numbers, the top, middle and bottom column.
This is where you bet on one of the numbers in a particular
column paying off. The pay off for this kind of wager
is two to one. So if you bet $10 you would win $30 if
the ball in the roulette wheel hits one of the numbers
in that column. |
